(August 13, 2008)--- As the City of Hartford prepares to enact a curfew starting 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th there are a few clarifications that need to be made from the original announcement.
The curfew will focus on loitering according to Sec. 25-4 of the Municipal Code. It is “unlawful for any child under the age of 18 to loiter on the streets” after 9:00 p.m. unless accompanied by his/her parents or guardian or an adult approved by that parent or guardian.
If a loiterer is under the age of 18, they will be given a written warning and taken home.
Mayor Eddie A. Perez says, “As an emergency 30-day measure, the curfew is intended, first and foremost, to ensure that Hartford youth are in as safe an environment as possible while we implement tougher investigation and enforcement strategies.”
Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts adds, “The majority of gun violence incidents in our city occur between 10 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. The safety of our young people is a top priority.”
On Monday, Mayor Perez and Chief Roberts announced some of the City’s strongest actions yet to ensure a safe and secure Hartford. These public safety priorities will have both immediate and long-range effects. They include:
1. Hartford Police announced its “Most Watched List.”
2. Strengthening commitment to enforcement and prosecution efforts.
3. 30-day emergency curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. starting Thursday, August 14th.
4. A letter has already been sent to the Governor and Chief Justice calling for increased supervision of those on probation.
5. A call for ongoing urban crime-fighting resources for Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport. |

HARTFORD FINANCE DIRECTOR RETIRES |

(August 6, 2008)--- Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez has accepted the retirement of the City Finance Director Thomas J. Morrison III, who will be stepping down effective September 10th. Christian Johnson, the Deputy Finance Director, will serve as Acting Finance Director until a search is completed and a new Finance Director is named.
“I appreciate Tom’s years of service to the City of Hartford and his leadership of the Finance Department. I wish him well on his future endeavors. I appreciate Christian’s willingness to step-up and serve as the acting Finance Director during our search process. He is a qualified professional and will provide steady guidance during the transition period,” Mayor Perez stated. |
